MEET BILL MERCIER

Hello Friends and Neighbors!  Thank you for visiting this online home to get to know me better.

Columbus has always been my “home”. My roots in the community were shaped attending Windermere Elementary and enjoying our family home in Upper Arlington.  My dedication to my community started delivering suburban newspapers to my neighbors and mowing yards and shoveling snow.  These childhood experiences in Upper Arlington truly showed me the value of community. My  Eagle Scout project (which still stands today) at Fancyburg Park deepened my appreciation for our local communities and it cemented my belief that thriving cities are built through personal care and active participation.

Attending The Ohio State University, I majored in Aviation and began working in the Ohio House of Representatives. I was honored to have supported Ohio’s first female Speaker of the House, Jo Ann Davidson, and built my experience of how government worked via my tenure at the House and through the guidance of Mrs. Davidson. After college, I began my working career in the maintenance department at Don Scott Field. My early experiences tinkering around with airplanes and operations led me to my current role of Senior Consultant for Technical Services and Aviation Operations internationally.  Currently, I consult with the Pentagon, and all major airlines on safety, maintenance and fleet planning. Through my career, I have honed my skills in government regulation, financial management and public safety.

The greatest moments of my life were marrying my wife, Leslie, at St. Agatha Church and welcoming our son, Jack, into the world. We have chosen to raise Jack on the same streets where I once biked, delivered newspapers, and spent long summer days playing baseball and football with my friends. This community is our home and I am committed to preserving it’s exceptionalism, for Jack’s sake and all the families that call District 7 home as well.

BILL’S PRIORITIES

To help give perspective as your new State Representative, I have had the unique opportunity of living and working in cities that have fallen to misguided mismanagement and as a result have seen lack of safety, affordability and economic opportunities. My experiences in Chicago and NYC have shown me how delicate a community like Columbus is and how quickly extreme policies can deteriorate the very fabric of our communities.  That’s why I am passionate about giving back and making a meaningful impact in our communities that have shaped me as a person.

Through a vision of common sense ideas and smart innovation, I hope to preserve our dynamic community for both little Jack and the next generations of Central Ohio kids and families.  My top priorities for our district are:

EDUCATION

Stacked books with one open book lying on top, on a wooden surface.

Common Sense Education Reform that supports parents as partners and allows every student to thrive

Skyline of downtown Columbus, Ohio with tall office buildings, including the LeVeque Tower and Huntington Bank Center, seen from across the Ohio Statehouse reflecting pool, with a boat on the river and a park with trees and pathways in the foreground.

JOBS

Positioning Ohio as a 21st Century opportunity hub and fostering a business climate that attracts top talents

PROPERTY TAXES

Three small wooden house models placed on top of colorful and green financial or business charts and graphs.

Property tax reform that is smarter, streamlined and reduces government spending for today’s economy

PUBLIC SAFETY

Revitalize public safety by partnering with police and strengthening community trust

CIVILITY AND DECORUM

Additionally, as I believe our elections as of recently have been marred by hateful rhetoric and a lack of civility, the foundation of my campaign will be built upon the respectful communication of ideas. I will be making it my goal to restore basic decorum to the conversation and bring common sense ideas back to the table.

I look forward to meeting you and earning your vote this November 3, 2026
